VCAP to continue AIDS Walk for Life Tradition
On May 31st, 2011 Jay Smith, Director of Ventura County Rainbow Alliance (VCRA), met with Madhu Bajaj, Executive Director of Ventura County AIDS Partnership (VCAP) to discuss the future of AIDS services and programs, and the AIDS Walk for Life.

"For 19 years, the annual AIDS Walk for Life has been an important fundraising, educational and visibility event for our County," said Smith. "With the closing of Ventura County Rainbow Alliance this summer, we want to ensure the continuation of the AIDS Walk for Life as well as other important programs and services."

As a result of that meeting and with the support of both Boards of Directors, VCAP will serve as producer and beneficiary of the 20th Annual AIDS Walk for Life. "We are very excited by the opportunity and appreciate Ventura County Rainbow Alliance reaching out to us", said Bajaj. Ventura County AIDS Partnership's mission is to strengthen the County’s response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic by raising and allocating funds specifically to fill the unmet needs in HIV prevention and AIDS care services in Ventura County.

In 1995, through partnership with National AIDS Fund (now AIDS United), Ventura County Community Foundation and United Way of Ventura County co-convened Ventura County AIDS Partnership in response to the local HIV/AIDS epidemic. VCAP is one of 29 community partners of AIDS United. AU underwrites a portion of VCAP’s operating expenses via a leadership grant. AU also provides challenge grant matching funds so that every $2 raised locally is eligible to be matched with $1. Since inception in 1995, VCAP has given over $1,385,000 to Ventura County agencies for HIV prevention efforts and AIDS care services.

"I believe the AIDS Walk for Life will be in good hands with the Partnership. It's a win-win for our community," Smith added. A transition and strategy meeting is in the planning stages. Volunteers and supporters are encouraged to participate.

World AIDS Day December 1

World AIDS Day is a time to raise awareness and focus attention on the global epidemic and to remember dear friends no longer with us. It's a time to come together as a community, celebrate the good work that has been done while remembering there is so much more to do. Over 1 million Americans are estimated to be living with HIV. Worldwide, it is estimated that 33 million people are living with HIV.

Our wish for World AIDS Day is for the day when the world is without AIDS. Our wish may seem the impossible dream, but we believe it is very possible. Let it begin here, at home through compassion and understanding, awareness, advocacy and education.

What is your wish? We hope you will share it at www.facebook.com/vcaidspartnership.

Please join us at California Lutheran Univeristy's World AIDS Day Events that are free and open to the public. Monday, November 30, 7:00 p.m. Screening of documentary film, “Little Secret” and Tuesday, December 1, 4:30 p.m. Positively Speaking, Keynote Address and Candlelight Vigil. For details download the poster.
